GILMORE TRAIL RUINS

We haven’t heard new music from Sheffield’s Gilmore Trail in over six years. Their latest offering is a beautiful, grand, and cinematic soundscape that twists, turns and builds over its tense eight-minute runtime. The instrumental band wrote the atmospheric and beautiful opening sections when they were temporarily a three-piece, but the addition of drummer Bob Brown allowed them to take the track to the next level quickly. Musically complex, the track wears its progressive metal influences on its sleeve, especially when we are transported to the distortion-rich, rhythmically bold closing moments of pure tension and drama. ‘Ruins’ is the quite the experience. -Dan Peeke
